Parking in Union City during the day is no problem. But at night, especially after 9pm, it's a whole different story.
Since this seems to be one of the hot new towns for development in Hudson County, developers are building brand new multiple "luxury" dwellings and the city is being depleted of street parking spaces dues to the new construction. Older houses are being torn down to build upwards of 8 to 99 units and the parking entrances and exits are taking street parking, new schools being built and we are losing more street parking etc. etc.
What to do?
First thing is to familiarize yourself with the Union City Parking Authority. Located at 506 -518 38th St, Union City, NJ 07087 between Bergenline Ave and Kennedy Blvd. Go on their website for hours and info. http://www.ucpanj.org/
Daily Parking passes, residential passes and visitor passes are available.
For a residential permit, you must bring a lease, utility bills, have your car licensed and registered to your home address, and a photo ID (drivers license with Union City address on it).
With a residential permit, you get 2 free visitor passes. If you lose them, you pay $25.00 to replace them. Your visitors must park within 4 blocks of the house, otherwise they will get a ticket.
They are a real pain in the butt about all this because we are so close to NYC and people commuting to the city have used Union City to park their car and then hop on a $3.00 bus to Port Authority.
Please call or visit them with everything you need because they are relentless with their rules and regulations. They will send you away with no permits if you don't have the correct documents. I'm giving you fair warning.....
